Read: Isaiah 61
The Spirit
of the Lord GOD is upon me;
because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath
sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and
the opening of the prison to them that
are bound. Isaiah 61:1
Deep inside a giant oil storage tank, constructed during World War II
then decommissioned in 2002, scientists shattered the world record for the
longest echo found inside of a man-made structure. In January of 2014,
scientists shot a gun inside this hidden network of oil tanks in Scotland that
created an echo lasting at least 112 seconds. The previous record was made by
slamming the door of a mausoleum shut, producing an echo that lasted only
fifteen seconds. To put it in perspective, that would be like the current world
record for the long jump being 29 feet and someone coming along that jumped an
incredible 216 feet – a virtual impossibility! Although, you have probably
never heard an echo that lasted anywhere near as long as the record, I’m sure
you have heard an echo. Perhaps you have yelled something in an empty gym or
even have shouted in a canyon. I’m guessing you’ve found the same
characteristic in an echo that I have: it never changes what you say. Whatever
you shout or yell always comes back to you the same way it left you. It doesn’t
answer your questions or talk back to you. It merely reverberates your message
over and over until it disappears.
Our lives will echo something.
We must be careful what we choose to echo. Far too many people choose to echo
the world’s philosophy in daily living. They listen to the world’s music, and
they echo that philosophy. They watch the world’s television programs and echo
that behavior. Many people are unknowingly being used to echo Satan’s voice in
society. He dictates how they should talk and live, and, like puppets, they do
over and over what he bids them do. It is time to stand up and be a voice in
the world, not an echo of the world. Since we inevitably echo something, then
it must be the Word of God that we herald. Read it, meditate upon it, follow
its standards, and proclaim its truths to a world that desperately needs to
hear. Stop spewing forth the echoes the world finds appealing, and be the voice
God needs you to be.
One final thing that an echo
may remind us in our lives is that once we say something, it can never be taken
back. It may echo for weeks, years, or generations. Be careful what you say
because it will have a lasting impact. Be careful who or what you echo, and be
the voice that spreads the truths found in the Word of God.
Quote
of the day: “Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself, and the right
people will love the real you.”
