When?

Read: 2 Timothy 1:6-14

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.                                                                    2 Timothy 2:19

Think for a moment about what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross. After one of his own men betrayed Him, He was forced to spend a long, torturous night being repeatedly questioned and beaten before the political royalty of the day. As morning drew near, He had been stripped of His clothes, beaten to the brink of death, spat upon, hit, slapped, and just about every other heinous thing imaginable that could be done to torture a human being. When all of that was finished, His pain was just beginning. As Jesus was led down the Via Dolorosa under the burden of his own heavy cross, he was mocked by the insensitive crowd that lined the street. Upon His arrival at Golgotha, He was laid on the cross and nailed to it through His hands and feet. It was then that the soldiers raised the cross and dropped it into its hole, the rough wood ripping at the raw and blood-soaked back of our Saviour. Then began His hours of awaiting death. As gravity squeezed at His lungs and made every breath a struggle, He was given vinegar in place of water which, no doubt, stung the face where His beard had once been and did nothing to curb His thirst. At last, the spear thrust into His side that brought forth the little blood and water that was left in His body, proved that death had finally come to the One who had spent His life living to bring salvation to an undeserving world. He had done it all alone, for those who claimed to belong to Him had abandoned Him early on the evening His suffering began. And He did it all for me and for you.
Is what He did for you not enough to make you want to serve Him? Must He prove His love for you in some other way? He loved us more than He loved Himself. Can we not love Him more than we love ourselves? Yet, it seems that every day young people make decisions that prove that their love for Jesus Christ is not as great as their love for the pleasures of the world. When are you going to love Him enough to let it draw you away from the world? When are you finally going to decide that Jesus Christ has done enough for you in giving you salvation that you will just turn around and live for Him? You don’t have forever to live for Christ. You may not even have a full life to try to accomplish that task. It will only be a blink of an eye before you look back and your life has passed. If you don’t begin to live for Him today, then when are you going to do it?

Quote of the day: “Decisions become easier when your will to please God outweighs your will to please the world.”
