Yet to Be

Read: Ecclesiastes 11:7-12:1

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
                                                                                                                    Ecclesiastes 12:1

     The state of Virginia is filled with cars bearing vanity plates. I’ve seen some pretty clever license plates, and I’ve seen some that for the life of me I could not figure out what the owner was trying to say. However, I saw one the other day that really left me thinking. I didn’t see the driver so I have no idea what the meant by the statement he placed on the back of his car, but the idea seemed to sum up young people so exactly. The license plate said “yet 2 be.”
     That is precisely where young men fit into the timeline of life. They are yet to be the man God wants them to be. They are yet to be the husband God wants them to be. They are yet to be the father God wants them to be. They are in the “making” process. It gives me the idea of a bowl being molded on the wheel of the potter. The potter is busy scraping off the excess and cleaning out all the impurities that keep it from being as useful as it one day will be. That bowl on the potter’s wheel is yet to be a bowl. It has the shape and the appearance of a real bowl, but it is yet to be a bowl. So it is with a young man. He has the appearance of a man, and that is what God is molding him to be, but there are still impurities and imperfections that must be worked out before he will become exactly what God wants him to become.
      Having said that, hold yourself to a high standard, but don’t be so hard on yourself when you make a small mistake. You are still young, and you are still learning. You are not going to do things perfectly every time. You are yet to be what God is molding you to be. One of these days you will become what God wants you to become if you take things one step at a time. Study the Word of God and pay attention when the Word of God is preached. Learn what God wants you to learn through your parents and counselors. Learn to take criticism and accept the help that they can give you. Learn from your mistakes and let it be one more step toward what you are yet to be.
     God has some great things for you to accomplish in your life. Use the time you have now to prepare yourself for what you are yet to be.

Quote of the day: “The struggle you are in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.”
