Read: Galatians 5:22-26
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live;
yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh
I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for
are a good number of products in stores today produced by companies that have
done a great job of marketing. They have done such a good job, in fact, that
their name has become synonymous with the product. Have you ever said, “I need
a Kleenex”? Kleenex is just a brand name for tissue. Or have you ever said,
“I’m going to run to the gas station and get some Cokes. What kind do you
want?” Coke is a brand name that has become synonymous with soft drinks. There
are many others out there that have done the exact same thing. How about
renting a U-Haul (when you are actually talking about a moving van), or Cheetos
(when you actually mean cheese curls), or even IPod (when you actually mean an
MP3 player)? Or think Vaseline, Lysol, Thermos, Ziploc, or Q-tip. And I’m
guessing you could come up with even more. The point is, when you hear the
product name, you are hearing the company name at the same time.
same should be true of us as Christians. When the unsaved mention the name
“Christian,” do they automatically think of your name? Does your life identify
so closely to Christ that your name could be synonymous with “Christian?” If
not, then you have not done a good job of “marketing” your Christianity. The
problem lies in one of two places. Either you are not living like a Christian
in your actions, or you are not telling others about Christ with your words.
Either one is a failure to represent Christ in the way that we should be
representing our Saviour.
William Borden arrived on the campus of Yale just out of high school, the other
students said, “He came to college far ahead, spiritually, of any of us. He had
already given his heart in full surrender to Christ, and had really done it. We
who were his classmates learned to lean on him and find in him a strength that
was solid as a rock, just because of [his] settled purpose and consecration.”
someone use those words to describe you? If not, then let’s strive to make it
so in our life – starting today.
of the day: “Live in such a way that those who know you but don’t know God will
come to know God because they know you.”
